Hi! I’m Laura Moynihan, LICSW, OSW-C, APHSW-C, a doctoral student in Social Work at the University of Connecticut. I have been a clinical social worker in pediatric oncology for almost 10 years and have spent a lot of time working with adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer. My work with teens and young adults has lead me to pursue my PhD. I have a particular interest in learning more about how AYAs make decisions about things in life like work, school, friendships, family, and dating all in the context of their cancer treatment.
I have published papers about AYA oncology care, have presented nationally at conferences, and worked on research teams aimed at supporting AYAs with cancer and those who are experiencing disparities in their health care.
I believe that teens and young adults know themselves best, so I always seek to include their voices in my research.
My research interests include:
– The psychosocial care of AYAs with cancer
– Palliative and end of life care
– Decision-making
– Disparities in cancer outcomes
My education has included:
– PhD in Social Work | University of Connecticut | Planned for May 2027
– Master of Social Work | University of Michigan | December 2014
– Bachelor of Arts in Public Health | Brown University | May 2013
This study is being conducted as a part of my doctoral dissertation. If you have any questions about my research or want to talk more, please don’t hesitate to reach out on the “Contact Us” page or by emailing our study team at ayacancerdecisions@uconn.edu!
